How to finish and seal a printed image inside a 1" pendant for daily wear
How the Pendant Is Finished
Each pendant is assembled using a combination of 25mm double-sided gel adhesive circles and double-sided wax seal adhesive stickers rather than liquid adhesives such as Dimensional Magic or E6000. (While I may earn a commission from Amazon when you purchase, these are the same exact products I use myself.)
The gel adhesive is what adheres the image to the glass, and the wax seal sticker is added to the back of the image and the bezel.
The double-sided adhesive system has several advantages over liquid adhesives. It eliminates the bubbles that can sometimes appear when using Dimensional Magic or similar products, requires no drying or curing time, and is much easier and less messy to work with.
This method also creates a surprisingly durable, water-resistant finished pendant. While I don't recommend intentionally wearing the necklace in the shower, swimming with it, or routinely submerging it in water, the adhesive system holds up very well to normal everyday wear and occasional exposure to moisture.
In fact, I've accidentally sent one of my own pendants through the washing machine, and it came through completely unscathed. I wouldn't recommend the washing machine as part of your jewelry-care routine, obviously, but it was a pretty convincing accidental durability test.
Why I Prefer This Method
Using the gel adhesive circles and wax seal adhesive stickers gives me a clean, consistent bond without the problems that can come with liquid adhesives. There are no trapped adhesive bubbles beneath the image, no waiting for glue or glaze to dry, and no risk of wet adhesive shifting while the pendant cures.
It also makes the assembly process faster and more predictable, which is especially useful when making multiple pendants.
Care of Your Finished Pendant
The finished necklaces are water-resistant, but they should still be treated as jewelry rather than waterproof accessories. For the longest life, remove your necklace before swimming, showering, or prolonged exposure to water, and avoid direct contact with perfumes, lotions, and household cleaners.
If the pendant does get wet occasionally, simply dry it with a soft cloth and allow it to air dry completely before storing it. Try this method with the Moonlit Desert 25mm Bottlecap Image Circle Sheet
